Problem with Factory iPod adapter and 6g iPod

Once I recieved my 2008 E70 with factory iPod, I went out and got a new iPod Classic 6th gen. The iDrive recognizes the ipod and I have full control over it and can play songs, but when the car is shut down the ipod stays powered and eventully goes dead. The iPod never charges thru the cable either. If I unplug it from the vehicle, it remains on the "Device attached" screen and must be reset. I returned the ipod to apple and got a new one that does the same thing, so it must be the truck! Anyone else having this problem?

Exactly the same problem. Took the car and the Ipod to my dealer. Mechanic confirmed the problem as he tested the car with the 5th Gen Ipod and it worked fine. He sent in the bug to BMW. We just have to wait for BMW to make a software fix.

I would suggest that you do the same, take it to your dealer and let them confirm the bug and report it. The more of us who do this the more chance BMW will listen and fix it.

does anyone have this issue with the 4th gen 20gig version??

not sure why it would make a difference... it's the same plug and the unit hasn't really changed much...

interesting...

Whistle iPod

I have a 2nd generation Nano & 5TH generation video iPod. Both work fine.

Apple is constantly tweaking it's iPod software, so if you have a set-up that works it's probably best to refuse all updates when you are connected to iTunes until someone else has confirmed that it works. The iPhone & I believe the iPod Touch both use an new OSX derived OS. Although the iPhone works fine on bluetooth I seem to recall it does not work for music (this is all based on what I recall from forum posts....so things may have changed!)

I suspect there will often be problems trying to hook the most recent iPod generation to a BMW software system that was probably set up months or perhaps even years before. Not sure how long it takes BMW to tweak their software to match up with Apple's tweaks.

Here is the current list of BMW tested iPods (from the BMW site). It has not been updated since March 07 so its one generation behind.

Its def only the gen 6 ipods.. my gen 5 with all current updates works fine. From what I've read about the gen 6 pods is that the OS is diff from all previous versions and BMW software is not compatible yet.. Hope the fix comes soon. Its a pain in the a** to disconnect the ipod and bring it in to charge every night!!
