Question Advice on X5 4.8

Hi...i'm new to the forum and would like to ask for some advice.

I've been driving an X5 3.0 sport for almost 2 years and i love it....i've just signed up for my new one which arrives in september 1st, it's an X5 4.8 sport in Alpine White.

Since i ordered it i've been having serious reservations both about colour and the engine size.

I've yet to see any Alpine Whites in and around London but the photo's i've seen on this forum have certainly eliminated any doubts i had as they are awesome, it looks fantastic.

The only reservation i have now is the engine size. Now, i'd say there are a lot of rich guys/girls on this site, i aint one of them, i'm relativley ok though!! But every mate i've told since i ordered it has told me to forget it, and just stick with the 3.0 sport as the fuel costs mpg are unreal.

In two years i've only done 16k miles on my X5...so i'm thinking that if i do this on the new 4.8 then it shouldnt hit me too hard in the pocket...but, considering residual value, which i need to as i change it every 2 years, the engine size, cost to run, and the fact that it'll be alpine white, then this may knock serious amounts of dosh off the price when i hand it back.

I'd love to hear from some real X5 owners as to what their thoughts/advice may be for me.

I'd appreciate it.

Cheers

if your going to change it in two years time, the worst choices you can make in the UK is the 4.8 engine and white as a colour both will hit trade values hard.
the best option is the 3.0ltr diesel (i have driven both the diesel and 4.8) and a solid colour like blue, black or silver.
The twin turbo diesel is amazing try it.

If fuel cost is a concern just go for the 3.0 diesel...maybe you should try moving this question to the e70 forum, more knowledge there...best of luck

I personally love the Alpine White. Will be a lot easier to maintain than solid colors.

You should really test drive the different models to determine which is the best fit for you.

with my 07 4.8i i barely manage 21 L/100km thats about 13 imperial MPG city driving. And I don't have a lead foot (right now i only have 4000 km on the x)

I'll leave the choice up to you. it might cost you around 100 pounds to fill her up as well in the UK

Maybe it's different in the UK, but white car sales in the USA has suprassed silver and black. White cars here, especially in Los Angeles, are hot, hot, hot.

Gas mileage for my 4.8i is HORRIBLE. 2 miles per liter, or roughly 8 miles per gallon. Hasn't got any better in 5 months of ownership.

I really like the Alpine White based on the pics I've seen here. I wouldn't get it though as I'm sure you'll get a better price for a bag of vomit at trade-in time.

One point of note though. The marketeers are trying to raise the game for white cars. Look at the launch photos for the new 3dr 1 series and the MB C Class, both of which were all in white. Maybe your gamble may pay out in twwo years time when folks may be gagging for white?
