19"/20" Rims: Bad Ride Quality?
Our X5 was delivered to the dealer on Wednesday, and we have yet to pick it up (not enough time!). So that leaves me room to think about the rims. We did not get the Sport Package on our 4.8i, and I'm wondering how bad the ride quality would be if we bought the 19s or 20s available on the 4.8i Sport Package by themselves.
Or rather, how different. It has a plush ride without them, as did the one we drove last month. (Yes, it was delivered that quickly! Crazy!) How rough do the 19s make it? The 20s? I'm definitely wondering if either of them are worth buying, because they simply look so much better than the 18s. Thanks for any replies.

The ride with 19/20 is not too noticable or even at all, I drove both and I currently own the 19 it is still quite smooth. I think it is due to run flats since the tires are hard to begin with. People have asked this question before, you'll see some other posts regarding the question.
Don't forget to post pictures and Congratulations! |

i also ordered without the sport pkg..simply because i didn't want to make the ride any stiffer... especially since i was planning on swapping out the 18s for 20s later on...
i am running 20s now and it's not bad at all... yes, 18s in general will give you a softer ride when compared to 20s or even 19s.. but in your case these 18s are run flats which are stiffer than normal 18s... and swapping them out to non-run flat 19s or 20s may not bring much of a difference in the ride... i would do it... but don't get rid of your original 18s just in case you want to go back!!

NO, no and no. I roll 20" in summer, and right now I have 18" with soft winter tires. Ride quality is not that different. just don't hit potholes.

Thanks, guys. I'll definitely consider it more closely. How much do you think a set of those 214s would cost me?

214s are hot item... they will cost dearly from any dealer!!
and you won't really find anyone off-loading them on ebay.... (unless you're extremely lucky!) you can also opt for replicas...i believe there are a few here that have them... "wheels and caps" sells them and so does "blustar" (ebay) just food for thought!!
