It's not often I think the UK consumer gets a better deal than our US friends but we get that free in the UK....it's broadcast nationally alongside one of our radio stations Classic FM. It's also free in most of Europe. Takes the information into the Satnav and re-routes etc.

Is it Clear Channel or BMW that is charging you ? Thinking about it I am surprised we get it for free in the UK after all they do have to collate the information. At the moment they use specific roadside sensors to measure it but they are apparently going to use mobile phone data in the future.

We do pay twice as much for our cars though!

The reroute worked great for me when traveling thru Houston, TX.

Yes, it shows the accidents as icons color coded for delay times and automatically reroutes you to the "best" route.

"best" is sometimes not the best though.

btw- once the actual "real-time" comes on line we should see much better re-routing. The realtime feature has not been enabled yet, this adds sensors in vehicles on the road (truckers and emergency vehicles) that provide true realtime traffic.

You are talking about two different things. The Traffic is Clear Channel and its always free. The fees discussed are for the optional BMW "On-Star" like feature which allows for roadside assistance, free calling, concierge , etc
