Broken Plastic Piece in Oil Housing
Hi,
I was performing an oil change on my 2008 BMW X5 4.8i. When taking off the oil filter, I noticed a plastic piece that came off with it. Looks like I broke an important piece. I tried searching the forums and search on google. I can't seem to figure out what it is and if it's replaceable. I attached a picture of the broken piece. Any help would be great. Hopefully I don't need to buy a new oil housing ![]() Thanks |

I think I found the part. It's called a supporting dome. It's #2 in the picture which I attached.
Odd that I couldn't take it out by hand. Do you think I need to twist it? Or pull really hard? I don't want to break anything more than it is. |

Buy the new part first and see how it attaches.

If that is the peace, it looks like the "pipe" to help in routing oil through filter.
I would guess that with it broken the oil does not circulate around the filter correctly. Do see others input as well. |
