Welcome to the world of BMW brakes my friend...

My X3 & ///M both suffer from it.

Sometimes a short burst of strong braking will cure the squealing for a while...

yes i have the same problem...
it started about a week ago when it snowed
when my sister had a squeal in her 3 series, the dealer said that her brakes were just dirty and sprayed them off for her with a pressure washer and supposably it solved the problem.
but doubt that this is the same problem as hers though

yeah, no need to worry, you probably won't need a new break pad. It will go away soon. having the car sit out side in the cold and breaking lightly can cause it to happen. but really no big deal. (if it is, dealer should fix it)
