On contraire mon ami....you can have the juicy 4.8is and not feel the pinch at the pumps. Unfortunately, only a lucky selected few can afford the mind blowing astronomical beasts thirst for juice over on this side.

3.0sd is a compromise in my opinion. Are BMW (US) not planning in introducing the SD sometime soon????

An observation

So if BMW is pounding out 3,000+ X5s per month (sales figures for November were about 3,200 and I'm assuming they're not building up too much inventory) and working 2 shifts 25 days per month (I'm guessing), it suggests that they have about 8 vehicles per hour coming off the line. If the line has 40 stations (also a guess), it suggests the vehicle is actually on the line for about 5 hours. Round that up to 1 day. It takes a truck no more than 5 days to get from South Carolina to anywhere in the continental US and most of Canada. Give the dealer 1 day to unwrap and clean the car and you have no more than 7 days of value (5 being transport) in getting an ordered vehicle to a customer.

I realize I'm simplifying and ignoring many steps, but with an average wait time of 28 days, at least 75% of that time is muda. An auto OEM that can figure out how to squeeze this time out of the process might have a decent advantage.

Sorry...these are the idle thoughts of someone with a just-placed order waiting impatiently to have some fun with the vehicle like the rest of you...

Brojor,

Figure 5 weeks taking into account the holiday. Also use the 800 # and speak to the reps, they will be able to give you more accurate information then what's displayed on the owners circle website.

brojor, Did you watch this show? They had shown step-by-step process in manufacturing. There may be a re-run.

Peterk814, what is the issue with HC? (As it turns out, that is where I ordered from...he has 2 stores in the Boston area...)

LeMansX5, thanks for the heads-up on the show. I missed it but will look to record a re-run...

I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up so high, because now it is bumming me out. Out of the 15 vehicles that I have purchased or leased in my lifetime, this is the first one I had to order.
Again, production was finished on my X5 on December 16. It's now been two weeks that the status has been sitting at "waiting to be released to the carrier". Could it be the holiday factory shutdown that bagged me?

I wonder if it's a good idea for mine to be built as soon as they get back from their holiday. I wonder if the 4-5 week delivery time they indicated had factored that in. I can just see them trying to crank out more vehicles per day as soon as the robots are fired up again... is that even allowed to happen? Quality control will surely suffer if so.

Talk to someone live on the 800#. They probably have more information than the recording.
