My first error message is a fact
it happened this morning on my way to work I turn up the on-ramp of the motorway, in the turn I feel some thump at the rear and she wobbles her ass a bit... I immediately hear the feared chime... and the following message appears: ![]() I continued driving, no loss of power or whatever... when I was able to pull over, I turned the engine off, removed the key and waited for a couple of minutes, started again and drove off without error message the car has only some 5000kms on it so this is under warranty but all I'll get is probably the 'could not reproduce' comment from the dealer as the message disappeared after shutting down the car... Any ideas what could have caused this?

they may not be able to reproduce but the code should be stored in the computer with more details for them to diagnose.

Yeah, what rh71 said is "usually" true. On my '07 & '08 E70, most of the time, the fault codes store themselves. Without explanation why (of course) many times the codes did not store for my many, many, many Service visits. Smart move taking a picture. I used pictures of warning messages many times in the case against my '07 X5. Take a picture of EVERY warning message, because if the code doesn't store, you will have proof for BMW, and your warranty issues!
On a side not...I find it funny that your iDrive is in English. Did you set it that way? Being in Belgium, did it not come standard in Dutch, German or French?? |

and for the language: the iDrive does come standard in dutch, french and english but I set it in english as all my digital toys are set in english, it just makes more sense to me that way, although I speak dutch myself... My previous E61 came with a french - english - spanish setup... so english was the obvious choice there... I just kept it that way in the X5...

> Fault codes are always stored in the computer
Well, fault codes are suppose to "always" be stored in the computer, but that function is sometimes faulty as well... |

I agree, Penguin. Every couple of months I get a "Dynamic Drive" failure. Upon turning the car off and turning it on again the fault is cleared off the screen. Upon subsequent follow-up at the dealer, I am informed that no codes have been stored. This has happened on several separate occasions and I've had two different dealers look at it with the same result-- no code stored, can't replicate problem.
