you'll need to monitor the battery to make sure you don't lose the ability to arm/disarm your vehicle's alarm system...

and even if you did manage to get inside....i'm not sure if the dead battery will still allow you to start the engine once you insert it into the slot...

something to think about...
really? is this stated in the manual somewhere? as for getting into the car, why wouldn't you just use the key in the door?

We're looking at a car on the floor at my local dealer that does NOT have it and I've been offered a fairly large discount to purchase it rather than order with the option.

Base 2008 3.0si
Platinum Bronze
Black Nevada
Premium Pkg
Rear Climate
Technology Pkg
Auto Tailgate
3rd Row seats
Heated seats
iPod & USB

This pretty much is what we wanted, save the keyless operation.

I'm looking at a delta of approximately $3k to take the one on the floor.

Opinions? Am I nuts? WWYD?

Thanks!
I got mine with CA as I got a good deal on an instock car at a local dealer that had it, and I really like the convenience of not having to get my keys out and fumble with gloves in winter. I miss the CA when I drive my 01 330ci, but it would been a hard sell to have had to order it at $$$ extra if I had done a custom build to order. Like some things, you don't realize how nice it is till you use it.... or lose it.

I heard it's great for women who often bury their keys in the bottom of their purses, and they don't want to spend the time to try and dig them out. I think it's pretty clever myself.

Don't you people lock and open your house doors with keys? I mean even the door leading in from the garage...

you can use the integrated key that pops out of the keyfob... not sure if you can start the engine though... haven't really tested that scenario...

Welcome to X5World! I used to live in Plano some 11 years ago. Nice town. Anyway, I think you've got all the options you want, so go for it

Hmmm... Interesting. Believe it or not, when I called back to give the buy on the floor model, I was told that someone was writing a check for it when he went to pull the keys. So now we're back to ordering one...

The dealer is telling me March 10th build date if I order today. Others here are saying 5 weeks or longer. I'm in no rush, but I'd still like to have a realistic idea of when our vehicle will arrive.

The discount did drop, but he's offering me $1k off sticker. That puts me in the $56,025 level including the destination charge ($775). Anyone else with a recent buy in the US willing to divuldge their purchase price or discount off MSRP?

Thanks!

$1k off sticker is nothing. A lot got $2500 off and I negotiated $3625 off (though he got me back some for the aero kit aftermarket install - I didn't have many options for that). If you go to a few dealers with prices, they will compete with each other. As is the case with most purchases, make sure you shop around. I saw 4 dealers before getting that offer. If you go through internet sales for some dealers, you can find "$1500 over invoice" which is close to my $3600 off.
