BMW/Castrol oil for the 35d

Since my 2010 750i used one quart each 2000 miles, I made sure I had a backstock of BMW/Castrol Fully Synthetic 5W-30 oil.

According to the owner's manual and my dealership, the 35d can accept 5W-30, BUT the dealership also told me that they do not use this 5W-30 in the 35d. They use another "special" synthetic oil for the 335d and X5d.

What would this be? I have A LOT of 5W-30, and the M6 and Range Rover cannot use 5W-30.

Thanks!

Castrol SLX Professional OE 5W-30, from a quick search; other oils may meet the spec, too...Search Tab is your friend.

Thank you. So I'm assuming this 5w30 LL-04 Diesel is different than the BMW 5W-30 I have in my garage? Or do you think it's the same thing, just with the word Diesel on the bottle, to sell something else?

The 5W-30 Castrol Synthetic you have/had for your 750 is not the same as Castrol oil for diesels. I have a Caterpillar diesel in my motor home and it requires oil specifically formulated for diesel engines. Diesel grade oils capture the sooty particles better than regular internal combustion engine oils.

Trade it or sell it (the oil), but I would not put it in my diesel engine X5, if I had one.

Good luck.

No, it is not the same. As DeanLinAZ said, diesel engine oil is formulated differently, mainly for the reason he stated.

Thanks everyone. My best friend has an X3 (2007 or 2008). Maybe she can use my 5W-30 BMW oil.

Appreciate it!
