2004/54 3.0d X5 engine number location???

does anyone know where it is ?is it near the sump area hebhindthe oil filter and etched on the block? having nightmares locating it, need to export the car and authorities abroad will need ot see it, thanks

Correct, behind the oil filter housing on a flat cast into the block. To find it, follow the alloy oil filter housing down to where it bolts onto the block. The cast flat should be just to the rear of this. You may have to push aside some fuel/vacuum hoses to see it. The cast flat is a rusty colour.

thanks for that , you would think that th EU being one big trade block would allow the movement of goods, but nahh they will need to see the engine number to register hat car and for my own peace of mind I need to see it too and then make sure with BMW that it tallies with the chassis.vin
