Riddle me this, Batman

Curious why BMW would release projected MPG for X5 diesels not available until the fall but has not yet released MPG figures for new X6 coming next month?

Does anyone know when the first production X5 diesels would be delivered to dealers/buyers? I've heard you can order in August and others that say you won't be able to order until Nov. When I pre-ordered my 335i, similar circumstances of first production, we ordered near the end of July and received it 8/31.

Maybe because the EPA numbers for the diesel are better PR?

I don't think buyers of the X6 would be looking for fuel economy, where as diesel buyers in the states would be.

Ironic that diesel here costs $4.45/gal while premium is still $3.61/gal. I know it varies state to state but wow what a difference.

@12k miles/yr =
3.0si = $2064 annual fuel cost (21mpg)
3.0sd = $2136 annual fuel cost (25mpg)

That's a huge spread between the two fuels. It is only .50-.60 here so the math works better-unless you assume little discount on purchase price for new diesels vs the good discounts on the gas engines. Then you have about $3k to make up.

Yeah that spread is unheard of. Here is is 3.50 for premium, $4.0x for diesel.

I can drive 2 miles east and premium will cost $0.30/gal more too. It's really wacked how much it varies... is it really adjusted based on the cost to the gas station or adjusted for pure profit?

Not sure how it works in this space but in other retail fuels some dealers will raise prices immediately when spot market increases while others wait until they have sold existing inventories.

Check this, while not a huge a difference as yours:

Shell station one mile from my house on a main road: Premium 3.50
Shell station one and a half miles from my house on a back road: Premium: 3.42

Lazy people pay more I guess
