Chroming

I have an 07 4.8 SE with the sports pack and the 20 inch wheels. I'm not a big fan of the "dechromed" look so I've asked for some BMW quotes on getting the window surrounds chromed. I've been quoted £399 + labour. Anyone else done the same thing or had any other quotes?

Well you wouldn't get them chromed, you would simply get the standard trim..you currently have sports trim.

Erm, the car is currently dechromed (sports trim) so to change that to chrome would be classified as....chroming. Anyone else done this?

As Wagner said you have the sports trim removed and get the "standard trim"
installed. The standard trim looks like chrome. But it isn't chrome. It just looks like it is........

Can somebody answer my question please rather than fighting over technicalities. I've asked a fair question after all. If BMW themselves term it dechroming, i think i'm quite justifying in terming the reversal "chroming." Whether it is or isn't actually chrome is not relevant.

I'm sure there are other people that like the "chrome" look more than the "dechromed" look as well. BMW seem to force us all to do this because it's the only way to get decent alloys (sport pack).

Good point, why would you chrome dip/nickel plate something when you could buy the standard trim OEM from the dealer and have it put on.....

And when does BMW call it 'de-chroming'? BMW calls it shadow line trim....

We did answer your question. Call the dealer and ask them for the price of the "chrome trim" or whatever you want to call it and you will know the cost.
to replace "shadow line trim...."
