What can be used to clean the chrome exhaust?

Currently, my exhaust is extremely black because I haven't really found time to properly wash the car or clean the exhaust tips. What I can use that will get rid of the hideous black smut? I have tryed Mother's polish but it won't go away. I am worried that I am stuck with it black and I love the way the chrome looks clean.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I like Turtles's Wax Chrome Polish. It comes in a small, round plastic bottle (white, green and red lettering). It works awesome!

I tried mother's, did work. I will give Turtle's a chance, but this smut is REALLY thick and feels smooth like it has become integrated into the chrome.

WARNING: Be very carfull when polishing the inside rim of the exhaust tips. Many popular metal polish car care products will remove the black paint coating from inside the exhaust tip.
