Software Updates

Have there been any major software updates recently that give any major benefits? My X5 was built in week 42 last year and has to go in for some work to a faulty temperature gauge and en erractic auto tailgate. I could always invent a problem that will require a software update if there's something worth having!

They will be having software updates all the time I bet until they get all the kinks worked out. I know I had to bring mine in within 8 weeks of getting it because of radio memory problems and they had to redo all the software.

My 2007 3.0si had lots of radio memory (preset) problems, and also the time & date on the Navi screen wouldn't hold. Since I bought the 'Launch Edition' so early in 2007, the dealership had no fixes.

So far with my 2008 4.8i (purchase date 12/26/07), the preset buttons for memory (1-6) have only changed themselves 1x. I have Sirius, and preset #1 which I have set for "The Pulse" changed itself to "90's Alternative", which I also had preset. Don't understand how/why it can re-assign itself presets. Hmmmm....

yeah, I bought one of the 'Launch Editions' or very first ones out also. Did you trade that in and get a completely new 2008 model? I have had some of my stations reset also if I haven't used the car, shrug. Kinks they still need to work out I guess....

I only ask because it confused the heck out of me with my E90 330i... are you using different keys? each key keeps it's own set of presets. I couldn't understand why every time I went to use the car the radio was set up differently. Finally after the third or fourth time I saw the pattern. Nobody every said I was smart...

I've only used one key. The 2nd key, is still in the little plastic pouch, that the dealer gave me when I picked the car up.

Your rechargeable key battery is probably shot then! They need using once in a while to keep them charged from the car!!

OMG, I HATE, HATE having to turn my car into the dealer. I'm floored that you would willingly "invent a problem" to try and get a software update. If you need a software update, you probably won't have to invent any problems, as the whole bloody car is one big software package and you'll have no choice but going to the dealership!!
