what's your diesel price there?
Here it's $4.50/gal while premium is about $3.65. Huge difference. Don't forget to consider how much the diesel may cost up front. You may not end up saving much if that's what you're concerned with most.

Here in Los Angeles, Premium Unleaded (which all BMWS must use) is at least $4.00 a gallon (I paid $4.13 a few days ago).
Diesel is at least $4.30 a gallon, some places $4.50 a gallon. With the better MPG the diesel engine will provide, it will save fuel money. |

Here, the diffential is about $0.50-.60/1 gallon. However, he's saving money by opting for a 3.0d instead of a 4.8i. So he saves on both counts: initial cost and lower operating costs.

In NJ 91 is $3.30ish.... diesel is $4.50ish.... that's right on the border of "should I or shouldn't I get a diesel" land....

If one is planning to not lease it, and keep it past the free maintenance period, it would alos be interesting to know how much a urea refill is going to cost every 15,000 miles or so. I assume one will be stuck with BMW as the only source for this.

My 07 3.0 gas rig gets 19.9mph - D projected to get 22mph.
With D being 50 to 75 cents more than gas will stick to gas for my 09 3.0. |

Premium unleaded here at BP 93 octane is $3.699, diesel is $4.039 per gallon. I am also trying to decide if I want the diesel.
Don't know if it's worth the extra cost for the engine and extra cost for diesel fuel... Craig |

the other thing you need to think about is re-sale value. In the UK where Diesel X5s are the norm, a petrol-engined car re-sells for about 2-3k less that the equivalent diesel, simply because the market is not there. I suspect you might end up with the converse in the US, because a lot of people are going to be wary of Diesel as everyone is used to petrol - so you might find it harder to re-sell.
On the other hand it might turn out to be the best decision you ever made, none of us can forecast the future accurately.
