Running Boards (Poll)

I know there have been a lot of mention throughout the treads about running boards.

Most have said that they look great, however, serve no real functional use except for helping clean the roof. Plus they get pants dirty and might have problem of the aluminum staining.

I'm getting a white X5 with the aero kit. I really can't decide on the running boards. (Initally I definitely wanted them, cuz they looked good from afar, but after seeing rh71's car, I'm thinking without looks nice too).

Does anyone actually use the running boards to get in and out? ie: kids, etc?

First try at putting up a poll, hope it works.

They do come in handly when I'm cleaning my windshield which I do often. Other than that I never use them or stand on them. I got them more for the looks than the functionality.

My 7 year olds uses the running board. But, for adults, it's useless. With that said, I think it does look better. who knows, it may help when it's time to sell.

Looks-wise, I personally don't think it adds much. BUT I have seen women get into the vehicle by using them and don't contest that it could serve real use if the driver is on the shorter side.

I test drove a few X5s with it and it got in my way so much that I would have no part of it regardless of cost... $300-something is pretty cheap anyway in the big picture. In hindsight, I may have gotten it for my wife to use on the passenger side because the sport seats make it harder for her to get out without pushing the sides of the seats down (which is not ideal)... and I would just deal with it. I would say it depends on your situation, but I'm voting no.

One thing I should mention while we're on this topic... my wife claimed she saw a vehicle with motorized boards/steps - they come out when the door is open. They fold back under when doors close... she thought it was a Lincoln or something... anyone seen these?

A MUST HAVE!! (for looks and not function)

you purchased this vehicle because it represents a combination of performance, luxury, and looks...with a touch of practicality....not because it had great off-road capabilities...

you need to complete the agressive look of the vehicle...

go out and get the running boards!
