After a rash of electircal issues recently....

The little electrical gremlin has been popping about and providing the following inactive/error messages:
Dynamic drive inactive
Rear camera inactive
SOS phone inactive
Service vehicle immediately (ALL the icons were yellow from oil to brakes...everything)
I-drive/NAV/SAT/radio inactive
Door locks stopped working
push start button and SAV does not start, turn over, nothing.

Each of these, and probably one or to more I forget, have come and gone at the whim of that little gremlin hiding in the dash someplace.

The dealer can't find anything wrong because the gremlin only shows up now and then. So, "The problem can't be duplicated."

Then I started thinking about how the car seems so busy while alone in the garage. If you've never passed by the truck long after you left it, you may not know that there are things working and "whirring" and doing whatever the truck does while nobody is in it.

I decided to open up the trunk and put it on a battery tender overnight once a week for a month. And voila no more gremlin. I have been trouble free only because I have to plug in my $70K luxury vehicle before I put it to bed at night.

Maybe there are others with the same problem and this seems to do the trick. For the moment, I'm taking this in stride, but if this f*&$%r strands me, its history.

You might have a bad battery.

I've taken my X for the service last week - due to drained battery, they did a number of tests and found that one of the battery's cells was bad. As the result, I once could not start the car and also had those "errors". They've replaced the battery, so far things look good.

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
My friends X3 had a issue with the Nav system not shutting down and killing the battery. I would talk to the service manger about your problem and give them another try.

I have been monitoring mine with a battery problem. Currently, if mine sits for a week in the garage without use, the battery drains to about 12.10 volts which is not enough to start the car. After several pushes of the start button, some of the electrics seem to shut down to proiritise the starting function, and on about the 5th push, the car starts on its own. After running around at the weekend the battery charges to about 12.55 volts, at which the car starts no problem. But after a week this drops either due to power drain from the cars 'wake ups' or the battery is not retaining charge

Armed with my research I am now ready to go to the stealer and ask him what he's going to do about it. There has been a service bullitin advising dealers about a software fault that causes the car to 'wake' excessively, and is one of the main reasons for an excessive power drain.

so heres an odd thought, last year i had some weird electrical issues in my outback so decided to take it to the dealer. they found rat "parts" in my engine and chewed-up wiring. a wiring harness was replaced and rat parts cleaned out and all was good. RATS! ugh...

That would certainly be something. My X sleeps in a nice warm garage and if there are rats in there - I think they'd eat the dog food before wires...lol.

Good read in the link:
Thanks Muz.

I will try locking the doors in the garage for a few weeks and see if that works also.

i have also experienced some technical issues but more minor and seems to happen during heavy rains...

one of the fog lights wouldn't come on... and once in a blue moon the autotailgate won't close when i hit the button...

I think it's just water seeping into certain areas and causing temporary shortages...

but once it dries it alright again...

it's been raining constantly these past few days... and it just happened again today... (30 min later it went back to normal)

not a lemon...just the way these things are wired...
