Why would this happen?? "Engine Oil at Minimum Level" ??

My 2008 4.8 x5 is only 5 months old and has 7,000 miles. Now a warning appeared that says "Engine Oil at Minimum Level".

Does this mean it's bad to drive? I will try to have it looked at tomorrow.

Why would this happen so soon? I can't imagine i should be losing that much oil in 5 months/7,000 miles.

thoughts?

thanks.

Marc, this is normal. Have the dealer top you off. It's only about a quart low. There was a thread about this a few weeks back....Phil

that its normal for a new engine to burn a bit of oil during break-in. So, just top it off and monitor it more often. With today's gas price, it's probably cheaper just dropping by a local auto part store to pick up a couple of quarts of Mobil 1 than to have the dealer top it off, unless the dealer is closer of course.

they just did it for me... (well, I've asked during my last week's drop off for the dead battery)..

SA told me that 4.8i's initialy burn oil, so it is not uncommon for them to top it off.
