That wonderful BMW reliability hits yet again...

4 degrees Fahrenheit today, so what happens?

Heater fan quits working. Works fine on defrost, not at all on Auto or manual speed.

Looks like the rather common FSR problem, but I'll put-up with no heat until I schedule to take it in for the bolt recall.

My old Ford Focus wagon is looking pretty good nowadays compared to my BMW's.

Seriously, I'm 60+ years old and my two BMW's have been more trouble than all the prior cars I've owned combined.

I do like both of my BMWs... when they are working.

Heat doesn't come on for the first 5-10 minutes I drive the kids to school. By then I'm already there. Even if you have it on intensive the fan will not blow until it's ready with the warm air. I'm sure by now you know that though.

I had an Isuzu Rodeo for 14 years that was pretty dang reliable until the GM transmission decided to act up. Even after a rebuild it died again 2 years later.

So, you DO have heat, just not in Auto.
Any chance you have the personal settings (for driver and passenger separately) in iDrive to cold? That will cause to blow cold despite having Auto.
I know that from behavior in my 35d - 75F on my side is colder than 75F on wife's side, because I set my personal setting to colder, then put in Auto.
P.S. BMW has the most confusing heating/cooling system ever.

My blower went out last thursday, they replaced it and I got the car back on friday.

I asked how is it that the part was so readily available (they usually keep it for a few days) they say blower motor failure is quite common at 40K+. The new blower they replaced it with is the new design and is mire robust.

Not surprised the motors fail. BMW foes not have a way to passively vent the cabin by just letting air go in.
