My first X5!

Hello there. New to the forum so I thought I'd say 'hello'.

Picked up my new X5 3.0sd Msport last weekend. Still trying to refrain from giving it a bit of 'wellie' ('thrashing' for those of you across the Pond )until the 1200 miles running in is finished but so far I'm loving it. Traded up from a Lexus RX400h which I disliked due to the atrocious handling under acceleration and very 'spongy' brakes and most of all, the 'car sick' inducing body roll. However, the boss (wife) much preferred the Lexus as it 1. Fitted in the garage 2. Had a sun roof 3. Was easier to park. Anyway, I pay so I won.

Took the following options: Media Pack, Folding Wing Mirrors, 20" Msport wheels, third row of seats and front heated seats. Also chose the shadowline instead of the standard Msport polished aluminium door surrounds.

Still trying to get used to the abysmal fuel consumption compared to the Lexus (32 mpg average, 27 so far in the X5). But hey, what's the point of buying a Sports Diesel and complaining about how expensive it is to run!

Here's a few piccies:

Great motor. The SD engine gets better and better every time you set out to drive. Enjoy

PS - I see your E70 has the "active air vents". Slighly annoyed that my new SD has not got these even though it is an "Efficient Dynamics" model with 216g/Km CO2 emissions.

Beautiful car! Congrats.

Thanxs for the insight on the Lexus 400h. With soaring gas prices (premium here is $4.79-$5.09 today). It's hard not to be tempted to go the Hybrid route. I mean, there is a $20K savings off the bat from the Lexus 400h vs X5 4.8i that I've configured, then the huge saving in gas. Really like the reminder that nearly all other SUV's out there have that disgusting body roll. The Lexus really isn't a competitor for the X5. It's more of "save money and drive a mellow SUV (Lexus 400h)" or "pay more and enjoy a performance SUV (X5)"

Very cool. Congrats! I'd love to get my hands on an SD for a weekend and fully check it out.

Enjoy!
