The Club anti-theft device on X5's steering wheel?

I was wondering if the weight of steering wheel lock will somehow hurt the steering wheel or the alignment of the wheels. I also heard that when it is put on, the weight of the lock is not centered and unbalanced, meaning it's heavier either on the left or the right.

Would it be perfectly alright to use this? I'm not willing to risk it if it's bad for the car in anyway.(eg. misalignment, too much stress on steering wheel and etc)

Personally, I think they are a waste of time and money. A professional car thief will on average spend about 7 seconds opening one. An amateur thief would not be able to drive away in an expensive and sophisticated car as the X5.

Therefore they are more suited to cheaper bangers with the intent of deterring only the joyrider. Plus they are so ugly! reminds me of the post on those horrible door protectors!

Still, it's better than door protectors because it's installed inside the car.

No....the X5 is almost impossible to steal. It doesn't even use a conventional key, so....

I never even thought about it this way. Exactly how hard is it to steal these modern-keyed cars? Impossible unless you have another keyfob of the same code that can only be ordered from factory?

No car is impossible to steal. If somebody wants to steal your car for any reason at all, it can be stolen.

But on the flip side, there's not much market for stolen X5 spare parts at least here in Socal. Cars are being stolen for parts, Honda, Acura and Toyota's. The logic is, BMW owners will not go to a junk shop or no name auto supply shop to buy parts for a 60K car. An average luxury car owner takes the car to the dealer for parts and service.

So in reality, the chances of my X5 being stolen here in Socal is pretty slim, unless I'm stupid enough to park the car in the middle of the night in Pacoima or South Central LA.

I though that Socal had more than normal luxury car thefts since they can be driven to Mexico and/or shipped out on a cargo ship easier than locations in the interior/North of the U.S.

But that's just a vague memory of something I read, I don't have any statistics.

I read somewhere that instead of trying to deal with breaking into the car on the street, they'll just tow the car into their own warehouse and break into it there, and strip it for parts.

i would save your money
its too sophisticated to steal for an amateur and a pro will remove the lock very quickly
insure it -if it goes, it goes - get a new one
but the more you think about it - the more you'll attract it - you'll be fine, so enjoy the ride and park under lights

Like x5mad said, if they want it, they'll get it. Modern keys do make it much, much harder to steal. "Gone in 60 seconds"?
