i'm having to park my X during the summer months so i bought one at Canadian tire. (local hardware store). it's pretty heavy and yeah they come with warenties (not just on the material but also theft warrenty, they give you cash if stolen with it on) i mean i don't trust it one bit but i do believe that it adds more time and pressure for the thief.

it is metallic silver in color (matches the space grey) and has a led light and a siren if unlocked without a key.

But on the flip side, there's not much market for stolen X5 spare parts at least here in Socal. Cars are being stolen for parts, Honda, Acura and Toyota's. The logic is, BMW owners will not go to a junk shop or no name auto supply shop to buy parts for a 60K car. An average luxury car owner takes the car to the dealer for parts and service.

So in reality, the chances of my X5 being stolen here in Socal is pretty slim, unless I'm stupid enough to park the car in the middle of the night in Pacoima or South Central LA.
They stole Merc-Benz CEO's security car in Germany few years back. If they steal BMWs they ship them as-is out of country to places like Belize, Africa and some other countries where drug money demand for such cars. In fact I know someone who saw thier car (stolen from NJ) in Belize with their NJ plates still on.

The Club Let's see...A heavy hardend steel locking bar attached to a light weight aluminum hollow core steering wheel. I'd guess about 10 seconds with a hacksaw on the steering wheel should take care of that...

Modern cars can still get stolen quite easily. I remember reading about a sophisticated car theft rink in Northern New Jersey last year. The luxury cars were stolen from suburban houses and shipped out of Port Newark overseas. The New York Times link is below.

By the way, I would never get the "club". This is why you have insurance. If someone wants to steal your car, they are going to steal it.

aftermarket devices are not theft proof but they are "theft deterrent" meaning they don't prevent theft but they slow it down or make it bit more difficult. The manufacturers never label the stuff as anything more than that.

And how about David Beckham's two X5 Security Models that have been stolen.
