Break-in period?

Sorry for the super noob question but can anyone tell me what the appropriate break-in time is? I thought i read somewhere to keep it under 70 for the first 1000 miles or so but I can't remember.

There are seperate break in periods for the brakes to seat and to break in the engine and it is in the manual or on line manual. I have 700 miles on mine and it next to impossible to be as good a boy as they want me to.
Avaoid the cruise control I was told to vary the RPMs and speed.

The manual (online, as I don't have it yet) says under 100mph for the first 1200 miles, and below 4500rpm... it also says to vary the speeds.

I for one wonder if it would be better to do a road trip with it and vary the speed (i.e. 55mph, 65mph, 75, etc..) or would it be better to do a bunch of city driving.. I'm trying to do this right as my plan is to keep this think until it's a piece of Junk a teen ager will want to buy in 2017..

I always felt highway travel should be avoided for the first 1k miles.

ok, so the expert consensus is stop and go, city traffic, below 4500rpm for the 1st 1200 miles..

I'll add to that (and I did this on my MB).. change engine oil. The break in (by definition) will yield a lot of metal fragmentation in the oil.. I will pay the lousy $80 for new oil/filter for peace of mind. Then I will 1/2 the BMW recommended intervals for ALL fluids.
