Going for scuba diving, how do I do with my remote control with integrated key?

Hi all,
I wonder when I go for scuba diving, can I take the integrated key with
me only and leave the remote control in the car?

My question is: if the integrated key is just an ordinary key, then this
probably fine; but if the integrated key has chip sets in the plastic area,
then it won't be a good idea to submerge it into salt water.

Does anyone has similar situation like me? Anyone can provide your
suggestion?

We have dived for 22 years...I wouldn't take any "smart key"
in water with me. (We have taken a cheapazz motel room key
with no effect...)

The times we have dived from a car, (rental), we would "hide"
the key around the car or up under the car.

Dunno your situ as to ease of keeping key hidden, but I would
not take it under with me...most dive operators I've been with
had a "safe storage" locker/cubby at dive shop, on boat, etc.

I have to agree with mD...whenever I dove I would leave it at the dive shop's safe. Depending on the boat, I would bring the spare key and just leave it with my carry on gear. I would never dive with a "smart key."

Thinking about your situ some more, a quick search turned up a page
plus worth of "waterproof" key holders/wallets, etc. :

In my 400+ dives, I'm not sure I'd trust them though...it is one
more thing to attach to yourself or, lose out of a BC pocket or...
And, any dive below 33 feet starts to put some serious pressure
on that container. I still think I'd pass on taking a smart key
under water, fresh or sea water...

I think he is asking about the small key inside the remote, not the electronic remote itself...which should be fine.

so, if the tiny cut key isn't in the fob then you can't drive away?? i though you could drive only with the fob part (without the sliding key in it)

i go skimboarding all the time and one time i lost the key that goes into the fob with the buttons... the car still drives... i was also thrown into the pool once with the actual fob ... it still works because it has a rubber cover on the inside that sorrounds the chip. i know about the rubber covering for a fact because my dog got a hold of my key when he was a pup and destroyed it so i had to pop the buttons out and fix them and i saw the cover around the chip.

but now when i go skimboadring i carry the plastic key that belongs to the plastic fob (with no buttons.) if you lose this plastic key you cannot drive your car with the plastic replacement key.

if i were you i would leave the fob with the buttons at home and take the plastic replacement fob and key with me...and when you go into the water only take the key with you and leave the fob thingy in the car.

Actually I am talking about the "integrated key" inside the remote control, X5FX is right.

I pulled out this key from the remote and actually I still can start and drive my car with the remote inserted into the key slot.

But the waterproof bag is an idea. The bag can go 150ft which is pretty enough for a recreational diver.

yorencer has the best approach - using the plastic valet key (the third key set) if you can find where you left it

there was a post a while back with a hitch hider, so if you have a hitch on your car, you would put the key in the hitch thing and take the metal key with you, might be an option if you DON'T have keyless Go (I can't think of what BMW calls it)
