SOS Failure

Hi everyone, just got my first error message on screen yesterday, "SOS failure" message appeared both on the dash with a yellow sat dish looking icon and the message itself on the info screen. Does anyone know what causes this?

Could it be that there's a problem with the embedded cell phone?

Has the error message stayed on or did it just show up when you when your cell phone was inoperative for one reason or another?

Hi GPSnV1, the error message stayed on for a few minutes then went away, I'm not sure about the phone reception at that time as i've just moved over to an apple iphone 3G and the reception is a little average. I was out again today but the error message hasn't come back on,,.

I should have said the BMW phone. I had this kind of problem with my 2004 where a red light would come on and say no phone service and since your post I see that about the same spot in my garage that the message comes on about an SOS error. In both SAVs, the message usually did not last very long. So in my case at least, it has to do with the BMW phone not being able to connect.
