Seat Memory Linked to Key Fob?

I have a 2007 X5 4.8. I am having trouble figuring out how the seat memory feature works. I have programmed the two postions on the seat for me and for my wife. When I hit the buttons on the seat and hold them down the seat and steering wheel will go to the preset positions. However, if my wife drives the car and changes the seat position and then I drive the car it will not return the seat to my settings when I unlock the door with my remote key fob. Anyone have any insight into how this is supposed to work. The manual didn't help me any.
