Normally I wouldn't touch the V1 while I'm driving as I have a concealed display. The reason that I noticed this overheating was the hot air that I was in feeling in the upper area of the car with the air conditioner on. When I touched the V1, it was too hot to hold. Now that I'm aware of this "issue", by touching it, I can feel that it starts warming up after just a few minutes and continues to get hotter and hotter. I spoke to V1 support today. The tech told me that his V1 gets pretty hot in the summer too and the fuse should go if there was a short-circuit of any sort. My V1 still seems to be operating perfectly. It just seems to be a bit dangerous right now. Can anyone confirm that theirs get really hot too? |

My V1 gets very hot also, I believe that they all do. I like to put it where there is a bit of shade while I am driving , such as all the way at the top, that way the entire unit is not directly under the sun. If I am doing long drives through the desert, I will tilt the passenger vent towards the V1 and you can feel the air cooling the V1.

I remember this thread when I was headed to Arlington Cemetery for a friend's funeral (may you rest in peace my friend) today.
When I got into the car this afternoon, the V1 was really hot from the sun beating on it. As I drove home tonight to Philly, I felt the V1. By George, it was cool. In conclusion, driverX5 is correct. It has lots to do where you install the main unit.
