Question About Removing Rear Bumper Fascia

Hello, everybody!

New Member here from Colorado.

I have a 2008 BMW X5, and I am getting ready to install a trailer hitch receiver. I bought the hitch kit from a BMW dealer.

The instructions seem quite clear, and I don't think I will have any trouble with the installation except for one point. The installation instructions say to, "Remove bumper fascia from vehicle . . ." I see the six hex head screws along the bottom of the fascia, but there are obviously more fasteners holding the fascia on. Without doing damage to the X5, I haven't been able to locate the additional fasteners.

Can anyone here tell me where the additional fasteners for the rear bumper fascia are located, and how to access them?

I'm sure I can handle the rest of the installation after that!

Any help will be appreciated, both by me and by my X5.

Thanks!

Jim M.

Jim,

Look up my posts.
I have a procedure complete with pictures in this forum.

It's not hard, just take your time.

Take it to the dealer to have the programming done so the X5 will find the new hitch circuit.

I have installed one on both the 07 and 08 X5 - they are the same part.

Thanks, ranchhand! That's exactly what I was looking for. I did a search, but I must have not used the right terms. Anyway, for others looking for this information, the thread is:

Now I can see why I couldn't immediately figure put how to remove the bumper fascia. It really does look like the most difficult part of the procedure.

Good job, ranchhand.
