X5 Q

I have been trollin on this forum for a bit now, intrested in a X5 but all i read is people having problems left and right. My Q is...what problems are people having with the car that warrenty does NOT cover? Electronic things going out is ok, i dont mind a loaner, but what CAN'T you live with in the X5? (gas milage does not count )

The problem with any public forum is that you normally only hear about problems, most people just don't have time to write about something they are happy with, they just focus on their other problems, challenges etc - human nature I guess.

I would like to announce the fact that I am very happy with my X5 and have had no problems at all. If I have to admit to being human and worrying about a potential problem then that problem is the cost of replacement of the 20" run flat tyres in the event of a puncture.

However, in my mind I have placed this in the 'probably won't happen' bin for the time being. (Needless to say, I am very careful to pick up any nails/screws I see on the floor.)

So in summary, I am very happy with my purchasing decision and I wish you the same.

I'm a perfectionist so I'll complain about everything that is not perfect with my X. Even with the normal amount of things that goes wrong with any car, I love every mile I drive in my X. It's great.

The warranty covers almost everything except tires. There is a separate warranty that they offer in the US for tires which covers you for the first 5 years for roughly the price of 2 tires $800. This would give you peace of mind if you're really worried.

New X5 Owner

My wife and I bought a new 2008 X5 3.0si about 5 weeks ago. Our experience has been great so far. No issues at all. This is our first BMW and I have to say it is a great ride.

This 2008 X5 3.0 is my 2nd X5. The first one is 2001 X5 3.0, first year model and September production line; a lesson learned. Compare 2008 X5 with my 2001 X5, I am very happy. The slow start from complete stop problem is gone after 5 weeks of "training & learning".
Other than tire replacement, my BMW center has been very good on everything else. I have been very satisfied with BMW warranty service.

Let me give you another perspective... I enjoy DRIVING X5 so much, I totally ignore minor flaws and issues - for example, I have a possesed driver side mirror, which changes angle every time I unlock the car (and moves in different direction every time)... but I dont care... OK, it takes me just about a few seconds to re-adjust it, and I will probably have BMW fix it when I bring the car in service to change oil in a couple of months, but the moment you drive this baby, you would not want to leave it overnight at the dealer

Our 08 has been great. We previously owned a Volvo XC90 (two in fact) and they were horrible by comparison.

With one exception, we've only had a couple minor nits that our dealer was easily able to resolve for us.

The exception was one of the tire pressure sensors. It came off inside the tire and was rattling around in there. the dealer tried to blame us for hitting a pothole and stick us for the repair. Of couse we didn't hit anything - there was no evidence of any other damage. ultimately they did the repair and didn't charge us.
