Creaking Noise - Solved!!!

A few weeks ago I posted about the fact that we have experienced a "creaking" noise from the back of our X5. It sounded like it was coming from the tailgate area. Very pronounced over bumps.

Amazingly enough, our dealer solved the problem. They heard it right away when we went for a test ride and they had it fixed later that day. Here's the text from the service slip:

"Lubed all contacts with seal guide, and adjusted both left and right stopper on rear hatch."

I'm very happy. Frankly, I was convinced this would be one of those things they couldn't solve. Big props to our dealer for figuring this out!

I have had a creaking noise as well. It goes away when the cargo area cover is removed.

I was ready to lose my mind with the creaking noise, figured it was something in the back or the spare. Adjusted the stoppers (left and right, use a torx T-27 wrench) and now it's fine. The stoppers adjust in and out.

I had that squeak, and took a small dollop of vaseline, mixed in graphite, then lightly lubed the stops. Presto - no more noise. so

So the sound is from the cover that you open to cover the whole cargo area ?? or from that plastic cover on the door ??

when you open the rear door, there is a plastic cover to cover the space between the door and the cargo area.

AUU 555, the noise I have is from the tonneau cover that covers the entire cargo area, not the lastic cover on the door.

What do you mean by "stoppers"?
