Running Boards for 2008 X5
My new X5 came with no running boards and i would like to go for them now. If this feature comes as factory installed, the total charge is $300. When i called the dealer, he gave me a quote for $985 ($565.00 for parts + $420 for installation). Why is the rate so much different? Where can i buy the running boards for less? Can i install them by myself? I live in Chicago area, if you know someone who can do this for less please suggest me. Thanks a lot. Veera |

When you buy a car with running boards installed in the factory, BMW charges you the difference between the running boards and the regular trim so that is the reason the running boards alone are more expensive.
If I were you I would try to install them myself and save at least the labor cost. It should not be that difficult. Also try get the parts from www.getBMWparts.com. They offer 20% off for all parts and you do not have to pay sales tax outside Maryland. Shipping may be expensive (Not sure). Another alternative is to negotiate the price with your dealer saying you found it cheaper online. Believe me it works! Good luck.
