Pros and Cons in changing from 20" to 21" rims

I am thinking in upgrading from 20" rims to 21" feric grey! Are there any pros and cons I should now about??

eg. Is it true that 21" highers the consumption? Or that 20" is faster than 21" when speeding??

thanks,

any information would be helpful!

The lighter the wheel better the fuel economy. So if the 21"weels+tire is less in weight than the 20" you will get better fuel economy.

I am not sure if the speed will change because you will probably compensate for the increased wheel diameter with a tire with lower profile. Technically, if the wheel+tire diameter is bigger then the speed will be higher (your speedo and odometer will be shot though and will show lower speed and distance respectively)

Pros:
  • It may look better
Cons:
  • cost more for wheels
  • cost more for tires
  • tire size availability (fewer choices)
  • likely to be heavier
  • more susceptible to road hazards
  • ride quality may be affected
  • rolling diameter may be different
  • harder to balance
  • it may look worse

thank you guys!
I ll think of it, although I love the way the feric gray 21" look on other x5 I've seen in this forum.

What worries me most is as correctly stated :
  • more susceptible to road hazards

the jump from 20 to 21 is more negligible than 18 to 20
I had 20's on mine when I took delivery, changed them to 21's about 2 weeks later. love them but have only put 15,000k's on them so far

That depends on what kind of roads you drive on. If your drive on smooth paved roads, you should be fine.

I have the 21" ferric greys and i love the way they ride, look and handle.
No issues with rubber either, and as long as u have fitted by BMW, your instruments will be set to reflect true speed etc.

get them and stop being an average joe!
