Angry Disturbing creaking sounds from Interior, Normal?

Hello good X5 owners.

I bought my E70 X5 in august 2007. Its an 3,0 diesel with the sport package and the optional 20in wheels.

My problem is that the creaking sounds from the back seats and around there are really getting to me. The dealer seems reluctant to look in to the matter and i feel somewhat helpless because they claim its normal for the car to flex and the interior to be making noises.

Pleas give me your experiance and opinion about this. Your thoughts about this may give me the perspective I need to fight this through with the dealer.

The car does not have active steering (and thats jolly good I might add). Nor does it have adaptive drive and those clever stuff.

I have a '07 E70, pretty much loaded, and have all kinds of creaks and noises from the third row/cargo area to the point that people ridding with me ask "whats wrong back there?"! I gave my 2000 528i to my son. Still just as tight and silent in the cabin as when I drove it from the dealer 8 years ago! Go figure!

Since when is creaking and rattling normal? You paid for the car, including the warranty. Make them fix it.

My 2007 3.0si had the 3rd row seating option, which in hindsight, I know now is total rubbish. More problems than good...so happy my 2008 4.8i does not have that "option".

When you unlatch the back seat, and push it forward (it does move forward & up quite a bit), there are latches and grooves on the car floor. I found that greasing them with white lithium grease, or silicone spray eliminated almost every "rear seat, back of car" rattle. Hope this helps!

I would suggest lubing the contact points for the backseat (if the noises are at the bottom of the back seat) and use a lubricating jelly as opposed to a spray, the jellies tend to provide a longer lube time. I use this in a few places on my 4.8is.(sounds sick doesnt it!)

Anyway, to be sure, to be sure - jump in the backseat and have someone drive you around, and make note of where exactly the noises are coming from so you can identify them.

i can appreciate a dealers comments, every man and his dog has a nosie at some time and it can take ages just to figure out what a noise is and where it is coming from, so the more info you provide the dealer the better.

my 4.8i rattles a little on the passenger headrest stems, a little on the rear door (common) and a little around the right rear hifi door in the boot

good luck with it

mine had some rattles in the back, it took the dealer some time to figure out where it was coming, but they certainly fixed it.

It seems some people dont regard this as a problem. My father says he cant hear anything out of the normal, but I still can!

BTW...My X5 costed me (with winter tyres) 1.138.000 Norwegian Kroners. Thats Equivalent to 227.000 US dollars. Go figure.

I have this creaking too - 07 M Sport with no 3rd row option - could almost be leather on leather or leather on metal?

I have missing leather covers from 2 of the ISOFix child seat bars and suspect this (parts awaited from dealer as it was a demo car and has several bits missing...) as it doesn't do it when back seats are occupied either....
