Aero Kit recommendation in Boston
It sounds like buying the parts from board sponsor Morristown BMW may be the way to go but I'll still need paint and install in the Boston area. My local dealer quoted me an absolutely absurd figure. If anyone has some recent experience having this done and wouldn't mind sharing what they paid, that would be much appreciated. Thanks |

how much is absurd? For part, paint, install, I first got $3600 from one dealer and another said $2300 +tax. I went with the latter since I didn't want to deal with handling all the work 3rd party. Some have and got it done as low as $1500-$1700.
For this you must ask around for the best price since it seems to be a good way for dealers to make some money back.

I was quoted $4,500 - $5,000! I'd say that qualifies as "absurd". This is on a new X5 that I will take delivery of this month. We have our deal negotiated already (I got what I think is a decent deal). It could be that this quote was "padded" to bring some profit back on the overall sale of the vehicle though I don't know for certain.

....you could also try a good independant like Turner Motor Sports etc. )Look in the local BMWCAA for a list of local indepoendant shops.) |

wow if people are getting $4k quotes it's no wonder I don't see them on any Xs around here.

Actually it wasn't Chambers. Chambers was the first dealer I called to find a car and get pricing but they didn't seem to take me too seriously. No problem, I called another local dealer who was very responsive and 3 phone calls + a few emails later we had a deal agreed which I am now closing on paperwork.

$895 for the body kit, around $600 for painting and install at a good body shop. I just had mine put on today.

The kit is available online from Morristown BMW for the $895. I wouldn't let the dealership charge more than $600 for painting and install...if they say they're going to charge more, then just take it to a reputable paint/body shop. Any modern body shop with the computerized paint system can match the paint perfectly, and from there it's a simple bolt on. I watched the guys put it on and it took about 30 mins. I'm sure you can have it done for around the same price.
