Navigation disk not recognised

I have a 07 X70. The GPS has been working fine until yesterday when the following message came up:

"Please enter navigation disk".

However the DVD is in the drive. Anyone else has experienced this issue?

Just to cover the bases, you're sure it's in the bottom drive, not the upper CD drive right?

Yes it is the bottom. For a second I thought that somebody snatched the disk so I tried to load another disk but I could feel resistance from the disk already in the DVD drive.

Hmm, it could be as simple as a dirty laser lense or it could be broken or out of order and needs a service..

I had the same issue on my 645ci.

Try to reset the I drive system. That will eject both cd's in both drives.

I used to do that on my 645ci by pressing the power(volume)controler, eject button of the cd drive and eject button of the DVD drive too. press them all three for a few seconds at the same time, the screen will shows the bmw logo. (I havent tried that on my x5 yet,but tried it on the 6, and it worked )

doesn't match with this, but i've downloaded the the bmw professional maps, burned onto a DL DVD, and used on the car. i found this disk very noisy and always spinning, when the original is noiseless. the route planner is incredibly slow and some times i had to eject the disk and reload because it says: error in the dvd map disk.

i burnt the disk in 2x speed, had got no error burning and no error verifiyng the disk. any other with the same issue ?

I used to get this issue all the time with a DVD-Rw - but changing to a DVD-R made a huge difference. I believe the reason is due to temperature variation causing the disk to fog-up - a quick wipe usually solves the problem. For some reason the DVD-R is less prone to fogging up.....oh and iDrive runs quicker with it for some reason too.
