Sidewall issue

is this something about which to be concerned? No idea how it happened; just noticed it while cleaning the car this weekend.

Slightly out of focus, but I wouldn't take a long/high speed trip
with that sidewall gash, imo...
my guess is a sharp object was flung back and sliced/gouged
the sidewall.

I'd rec'd a replacement; no fix that I know of.

I would not drive on that. That will also be a replacement it can't be fixed. Hopefully you have rim & tire insurance.

How thick is a sidewall usually? I curbed my tire/rim and there's a small chunk missing close to where the rim starts so I wanna gauge for safety here. Been driving on it for a month or so at different speeds ok.

Definitely a safety issue, I would get the dealer's opinion on it. With the run flats, the side wall is reinforced and hence may be better at handling this kind of damage than a regular tire, but getting a second opinion never hurts.

Did the air pressure warning come on? even though I agree it is better to be safe than sorry and get this changed... if the warning has not come on, that means the air is not compromised and I assume it is running as normal. When the tire becomes compromised... you should have some time to get to the dealer as it still should hold for a little bit after that.

Thanks for all of your replies. I sent the foto to my service advisor at the dealer- haven't heard back yet. No warning on the TPM. I only have about 1400 miles and was planning to get an oil change (my pay) before a trip to Illinois next month- will get it all done sooner now.

Christiaan is an unknown quantity at this point
to be honest, it does not look too deep..... i personally would not change it if the cut is tearing into the rubber like 10% of the thickness of the tire....

It's fine. Sidewalls on runflats are pretty thick. I wouldn't worry too much about it but try to get a replacement if it doesn't cost you anything.
