I think you need the IPOD option which was $400 when I bought my car last year. It is worth it, you have total control of your IP though the IDrive.

The Phone Snap-in adapters in your second link have nothing to do with playing your iPod music. All that phone snap-in adapter does is:
1. power your phone (or iPhone)
2. utilize the built-in antenna to (normally) provide you with a stronger cell-phone signal

Nope, the $400 option comes with all you need. There will be a cable that connects to a plug in the center storage compartment. Plug in your Ipod, close the compartment and forget about it. The Ipod is totally controlled from the Idrive.
