Question about angel eye for E70...
After reading other threads about angel eyes for e70, it looks like bi-xenon headlight is a standard feature in U.S. and for bi-xenon headlights it uses H8 for the angel eyes. I am from australia, and bi-xenon is not a standard feature for X5s, so i was just wondering if anyone know what sort of bulb do they use for angel eyes? and where can i get them from? Thanks... |

Gday (to another Sydney sidder
That is correct, ALL E70 x5's (regardless of bi-xenon) or halogen lighting use a H8 Globe for their DRL / Parking light / Corona Ring / halo lights (whichever you choose to call them). There are a 3 ways you can also take besides the standard path (ie standard clear glass - yellow light halogen H8 Globe) 1. Replace it with a more whiter light (this is via a H8 halogen globe with a slight hue of blue etc to filter out the yellow) common brands are MTECH, PIAA, PHILLIPS etc.....Ebay sellers have these, and they are a good solution. Keep in mind, in the past few years cheaper maufacturers have really picked up there game, but remember cheap globes are still cheap for a reason (ie they may not last as long etc) again a whiter solution (and maybe 90-95% as bright as stock) 2. Go down an Error free H8 - LED Path. PIAA, and BELLOF have great H8 LED Stuff. They have connectors with resistors, that will allow you to not get the annoying idrive error, or strobing etc.... with this keep in mind - a standard H8 LED will not work, for it to work it has to be one designed for use on BMWs (ie 3 series e92,e93 or BMW 1 series E87 that s the new 2008 coupe etc) - again you can find both H8 LED globes on EBAY (ones that wont work, and ones above, like I just said, PIAA, Bellof etc that will) - some owners have said the only real down side to this is that in the day with the LED Halo/Corona H8 rings on - you cant tell they're even there (they're almost invincible). which is so true, the standard 35w is way brighter. But then at night -these things suit the door handle puddle lights etc, so much more, that a posh car like the X5 looks 10 times as posh, just because of this small mod 3. You can go down the rare path (if you have the time, money, patience) and it has been successful, and that is putting HID Xenon lighting in place, but if you have the time, money, patience etc, you get things such as heat, and the idea that you lose the overall ring structure, instead you get a very bright xenon glow (which is not bad too, but that has to be your thing too i suppose) - I will say of the blokes that hae tried this, there is ALOT of wiring and installation involved, its NOT a standard aftermarket HID swap.. I hope this helps, and post some pics, and share stories of how it went for you

Hi mate.
No problems. Im 99.9% sure. Dont quote me - From what i've heard, the H8 (in xenons) should be cool and is the same for non xenon X5s (e70).. I found the link for those LEDs - if you;re interested - Im posting them because they are not as easy to find as glass globes (ie MTECH, PHILLIPS, PIAA etc) http://www.bellof.co.jp/products/bmw_sirius-led.html and then get the part number for the E70...

Hey...
I have actually bought a H8 bulb a month ago already, and a member from the forum told me that is installed next to the high beam...i open the cover of the high beam and i can not find anywhere to install the H8 bulb...so can i just confirm that have you installed the H8 bulb next to the high beam? also would you have any idea where i can get a aerokit for the x5 at reasonable price? Thanks mate... does your Xs have xenon option? |

Hi mate,
I dont have an X5 at the moment. Regarding where to change bulbs (placement under the bonnet etc) I am not too sure, I would usually ask the BMW service guys to help out (again, alot of the time they might be hesitant, saying it could void warranty etc) - just say your not changing the mechanics just the cosmetic appearance plus - just tell them its because you do alot of night driving etc, and this has been approved by the Night time drivers association (they may believe you )
