Automatic tailgate closing?

I have the automatic tailgate on my 09 X5, and wanted to know how you close it. If I open it from the button in the car, I cannot close it with that button. If I open it with the key, I have to hold the button down until it closes. Is there a way to close the tailgate by just pushing the inside or key button once?

Sorry if this question has already been asked. I am new, and have been on the site a couple months, but have not seen this question or did not pay attention. (did not own an X5 then

In short, for the US, they are likely trying to avoid lawsuits so they require someone to be present at the tailgate in order to close it - so you can only do so with the lit button. Not sure what you meant by being able to "hold the button down until it closes" - which button are you referring to?

The same goes for being able to open all windows with the remote but closing them requires you to be at the doors.

Don't want little Johnny's hand all mangled now do we? I believe if you got a European-spec'd vehicle, you would be more fortunate unless they changed this for 2009.

I meant the tailgate button on the key. If I hold it down the tailgate starts closing, but if you let it go while its closing it stops. I want to be able to just push either the tailgate button on the key or the tailgate button inside the car once and have it close on its own.

Also, for the windows, I could close my windows by holding lock on the key.

^ sounds like you got the euro-spec then? I've never heard of the dashboard button close the tailgate though... even in the euro-spec ones, but maybe I'm wrong.
