All 4 windows rolling down by themselves....

Anyone had this issue? I did a search and didn't find anything, so I thought I'd post.

I have an 07X5 4.8i w/comfort access and most options except rear entertainment, premium sound and 3rd row. On two occasions, all 4 of my windows have rolled down by themselves. The front two windows roll all the way down and the rear windows roll down 75%.

The wierdest thing is that it's happened almost exactly a year apart, Dec.26 early morning sometime. Last Dec I attributed it to the fact that the key was in my pocket all evening of the 25th and I assumed I must have activated the auto roll down. I found the windows down the next morning. However this Dec 25 the key luckily remained untouched and at midnight I just happened to check the driveway (for another reason) and the windows were rolled up. At 7am on the 26th I found the windows rolled down...I was shocked.

I took it to BMW (not the usual one I visit) and they were swamped...they claimed there was little they could do b/c nothing records when the windows roll down and it is not something I could reproduce on demand. They sent me on my way. I plan to take it in again soon to my regular dealer.

Any Ideas?

Jeremy

you do know your key can make all the windows roll down, right?

That also happened to me a couple years back. I have an 01 3.0 so i dont think is affecting only new X's. This also happened to me twice and I never really did get to the bottom of it. Once it stopped i pretty much forgot about it, but my guess would have to be that something with the key fob triggered this to happen.

I had the same, twice, but half way, and only up front, both time it was raining hard...they said they repalce the unit in the driver door that had a bad contact, I noticed it also when I washed the car, the doors would lock-unlick only with the water pressure from he hose
I seems to have corrected the problems

That's interesting....it was raining both times for me as well, last year harder, this year less so. Last year it was hard enough I had to remove all the door panels and blow dry everything. I have seat savers in the rear and they're waterproof (I highly recommend them esp with kids). Deep floor mats kept the carpet dry.

But more importantly...I too notice that water pressure on the door pulls causes the doors to lock and unlock....IS THERE A key combination on the door pull that can roll the windows down all the way (like simulating holding the key fob)? Maybe with the key in range and water droplets hitting the door pull it could cause this issue????....

In the rain...

[But seriously, on the 26th it was out of range...so my previous post may not apply]
