Question OEM Cross Bars

Hi folks,

For those of you who have the BMW OEM Rooftop Cross Bars, can you comment if they make any noise - local/highway driving.

Also, can you take the cross-section measurements of each bar - width and height, I want to make sure if I could attach my Thule bike racks and Yakima roof box before I commit to buying them.

Much appreciated !

Thx

why not just buy Yakima or Thule crossbars? And the faring really helps cut down on noise. At least with our setup for our 5 wagon. Haven't tried it all on the X yet.

I have Thule crossbars. They just dont look very nice on the car (ends stick out even after cutting excess). I like the looks of the OEMs.

If you want good quality, strong, low profiled, quiet and smart looking roof racks with plenty of accessories, then have a look at this thread on roof racks on the E53 forum: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...ross-bars.html

This is the US website for Rola: Official ROLA Website

Note: I have no affilliation with Rola, either professional or private. I am merely endorsing a good product that is well known in Australia.

Thanks Foomph. Funny, but my brother got these cross bars on his E53. They dont sell them here in US (he got his off the ebay).

Yes, they are very nice low profile, and quite, but I am convinced they are not strong enough for my needs. Thule and BMW OEM have much sturdier profile.

But thanks for the suggestion anyway !

Cross section height is 31mm, width is 50mm.
Wind noise is only noticiable above 140kmh (90mph)
The front bars have a fairing for wind noise reduction.
I am a lazy guy so I keep my bars attached all the time, they look really good.

I have BMW OEM crossbars with Thule's pull-top snowboard carrier(91726) attached.
Wind noises are noticeable from about 70mph.
