Is This Charactoristic Or Mechanical Problem?

Hello to everyone. I am a newbie with a question.

I recently purchased a used 2007 3.0 with the Sport Package. I've had it for a week and overall I am very pleased.

My question is as follows:

I've noticed that at slow turning speeds the steering wheel does not come back around to center that easy after a turn.

I have a 2006 3 series and after a turn the steering wheel pretty much comes back to center on it's own. The X5 is very different in that regard. I have to give it a decent amount of assist to get it back to center.

Is this a normal charactoristic of the X5, or is this a symptom of a problem?

My tires are inflated to 32 PSI as per the manual.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I believe it's characteristic of the X as it is heavier. It got "worse" when I went to the wider 20s from 19s, probably also due to weight. If you inflate them more it may help a bit.

Some time in the past I noticed even my other vehicle was more responsive after I got new tires - I was way overdue - balding tires = more contact patch = heavier to turn... same concept with wider tires (as if weight didn't hurt already).

I thought I read somewhere that this is a known issue and a software update corrects it. Am I just imagining things?

Thanks for the responses guys.

Hey, Morecowbell. When is your 09 due in? That is the same color combo as my 07. I love it. Went to the movies yesterday afternoon. When I came out it looked like the Seagulls used it for bombing runs. Pissed me off since I just washed it the day before. LOL

The reason I got Space Gray instead of Black is because I am sick and tired of cleaning my Jet Black 335 every other day. That's exactly what I didn't want to hear...

You are better off with the Space Grey. I've had 2 black cars and I said never again. I actually said that after my first black car, but s**t happens.

I've said that a lot also...and this is only my second non-black car.
