X5 rust inhibitor device and Auto starter

Anyone had installed these two item on their X5
- Rust inhibitor device
- Auto starter

Not sure if this rust inhibitor device that attached to the vehicle is worth it or just a gimmick. Apparently subs uses similar technology...

For the Auto starter, can't seem to find any place that sell for the E70 model or don't even have a solution for auto starting.
Anyone had one installed?

I think bmw's ecu disallows any kind of remote starting.

An electronic rust inhibitor is based on a real scientific principle, but can't work on a vehicle. A boat that uses cathodes on the rudder, or a sub that uses a similar device, is surrounded by an electrolyte, the sea. Cars aren't. These devices fall in to the general category of snake oil.

Modern vehicles are built with significant amounts of galvanized metal. Rust isn't nearly the problem it used to be.

For the remote start, it is technically possible. Since you have a coded key, some remote starters mount your spare key under the dash in a second ignition switch, so that the vehicle thinks the key is already there. That gets by the vehicle systems. Now, whether you want to tap into your vehicle wiring and take that chance is up to you. Also, remote starters are typically used to warm a vehicle (by idling) in cold weather. That is a bad idea, causing increased engine wear. It is specifically recommended against in your owner's manual. On the other hand, if you just want to see the car start as you walk across the parking lot with a remote control fob, you can do so. Do a search, there are several threads with links to products that other posters have successfully installed.
