Seat control module
I just bought a E70 4.8 and after 36 hrs, it is in the shop. When I got it the airbag warning light came on and "seat calibration" warning appeared. I brought it in the next am. They checked the airbag warning and reset it and could not find anything. I didn't mention the seat calibration as I read the manual and reset it according to instructions. Later that day, airbag warning, seat calibration, and adaptive headlight warnings appeared. Took it back. THey say the seat control module is defective and needs to be replaced. This should correct the seat and airbag warnings. ALso, the headlight motor needs to be replaced. Parts in Monday, ready Tue, but they want to watch it and drive it so ready Wed. Has anyone had these failures. Not a good feeling, obviously. THey seemed surprised; I won't say how I felt. I am driving a X5 35d while mine is fixed. Any thoughts on what else I can do? I hope this is not the start of a lemon. My dealer seems to be helpful, and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. I will of course, make sure I get all the paperwork. |

I wouldn't worry about it too much. As they say crap happens. I'd look at it the other way, I'd rather get these repairs out of the way asap as opposed to creeping up on you later and possibly leaving you stranded somewhere. Also, if your worried about its quality, I'd say its perfect the way its is for you. If you see more issues, you'll get more dealer involvement to make it right (possibly forcing a buy back if there are many more issues) now as opposed to a year from now.

I will call the manager tomorrow to let him know that I am concerned about the vehicle. I don't expect much from him, but will see. I think I would feel better if I had driven it for at least a month before anything showed up!

Gentlemen, these are a few minor teething problems on theX3.0sd/X35D, but trust me its got to be one of the best X's to drive & have.
They will sought it all out, but fight for your rights.

Wow, what a great response from the dealer. I called and left a message with the manager about my situation. He called back in about 20 minutes and said he discussed my car with the service department. He first apologized and said the car never should have these problems. HE said he was confident that the service dept could get it fixed.
WHen I said what options would I have if it happens again, he said then I should come after him and they would put me in a new vehicle. DIdn't expect that. Big relief. Certainly can't ask for a better reponse. |

Driving the diesel X5 they gave me and I am impressed. Smooth and powerful and the mileage is unbelievable. 28.7 while driving to out of town today (150 miles).
Still, 4.8 with 20s looks better to me. It just has a defective gas gauge (averages 12!) for the short time I got to drive it

Heard from dealer today. Replacing seat control module resolved seat calibration and airbag warnings. Replaced driver headlight, and system now says need to replace headlight control module.
Of course, they don't have it (shouldn't it come with the headlight?)Part ordered and car ready in another 48 hrs (Thursday) Hope this is the end of it. |

I think half of the issues are because the technicians are not sure what's going on and they order incorrect parts. I am not sure how BMW compensates the dealers for Warranty Service and if that has any impact?

I wonder too.
He said after the light was replace, the fault code came up to replace the module. Wouldn't it tell you both at the same time? They just seem to follow the sequence and never look ahead |
