Good News for the Diesel Buyers

Several analysts are now projecting that Diesel will be lower priced than Gasoline once April arrives and the heating oil season is over. Seems the economic slowdown has really reduced the demand for diesel due to reductions in commercial transportation activities, which are the major consumer of diesel fuel.

The diesel payback may look a lot better in a couple of months.

P.S. I guess I should have said good news for diesel OWNERS... if this happens it will increase the demand, and resultant price, of Diesel vehicles for diesel vehicle BUYERS.

Great news, It's about the same price as premium unleaded here right now. I have noticed it's starting to come down in price. It's about time. It used to be cheaper than regular before low sulphur diesel.

I've always noticed price differentials that are reasonable in the Communisticalwealth of Virginia. But yesterday when I filled up at the no-ethanol petrol station (went for a drive), I noticed that diesel was a mere 3 cents/litre more expensive. Or about $0,12/US gallon over premium petrol. That's gotta help.

Don't people in the UK buy diesels more than petrol cars even though the UK has higher prices for diesel?

Ahem, BMW of North America. I am still waiting for my 120d hatchback with EfficientDynamics. This is your last chance. If you don't do something about it, Audi or Opel is going to get my money. (Provided the latter isn't insolvent by fall).

Yes, but you have to consider more than fuel price. For me, the differences included road tax, which was an annual fee based on vehicle emission band, and the company car benefit (income tax), which was also based on vehicle emission band. Emissions were calculated on CO, not on NOx as in North America, so diesels did quite well in comparison to petrol models.

Just a quick note to mention that in Australia, the price of diesel is finally lower than regular gas (petrol).

If you hunt around, I can even get it up to 9% cheaper. If this keeps up, we may break even on the extra cost of the diesel .... although I have the 3.0sd model which drives a little better than the 3.0si.
