Same problem. Just 6 months old.
BMW should be more careful.

I have a small bit of peeling too. My car is almost 3 years no so I can forget the warranty. I will replace the buttons one of these days since I want the steering wheel to remain new

I had some peeling on the driver side door armrest too, but my dealer replaced the plastic piece and frame at steering wheel with no questions asked, took them 2 days to order the parts.

I just took my 07 X5 to the dealer today for ticking noise from engine. I showed my SA the peeling finish in the steering wheel and light knob and he didn't say anything whether these are under warranty and included in the paper work. He hasn't called me yet for updates until the end of this day. Hope BMWNA would include these glaring defects as I agree with most of the members here that it was not a wear and tear issue when you hardly touched those areas concern.

exact same problem. Dealer did not want to replace. had to pay about $40 for a company to take off the trim, strip the excess plastic and then respray with soft plastic coating - with a 2 year warranty.Goods as new with now problems so far.

I had this same problem on my E53, had the steering wheel trim replaced twice (on warranty) for this. Also had similar peeling on my E46 M3 on the door panel trim. I sent BMW a letter explaining this, and how such a minor part can cause concern over the quality of the rest of the vehicle, blah, blah, blah.. Their response was basically "Sorry for your luck, since you're off warranty it's no longer covered".

I hope they fix this peeling soon, it was one of my pet peeves. I have a 2011 5.0 on order and would hate to see the same problems.
