3 mysterious holes in the steering wheel

I discovered 3 holes at the back of the sports-steering wheel of my X5.
There's one on each spoke, about 1/4" in diameter
Any idea what these are for? retrofit shift paddles?

Here are a couple of pics off ebay. Looks like the holes are for the screws that hold the trim on the front in place. So stop playing with it and find something else to put your fingers in!

I have them to in my M Sport wheel. They are screws to hold the front trim like King said.
