Summer 20" 214's and April snowfall- Am I doomed?

Hello All.

As you may know if you read some of my posts, I already have my summer tires on my X. Right now, there is snow/ice about 2-3 inches on the ground.

Should I still go ahead and drive? I know some of us have done it so its possible but is it safe/ worth it?

thanks

Depends somewhat on the temperature too as the summer rubber stiffens to uselessness the colder it is. I would keep it at home if at all possible. If you have to drive it, try it in a parking lot first.

if 20"s are anything like the 19"s on my old E53 then it will not be fun. Just make sure you brake early.

I drove my 215 21" summer tires in ice and snow two months ago (Sunrise, AZ @10,000ft elev) and had to drive carefully. I thought it was do-able as long as I drove nice and easy and allowed sufficient space to slow down. In short: it is not impossible to drive but it is not great either....

Best thing to do is to find an empty stretch and have a few emergency brakes to find out how much grip you have before you take it out.

+1
I agree.
I drove it with stock summer tires on. It wasn't that bad to drive but the tires were worn out really fast during the winter. I had to change them in last spring.

Thank you all, this forum is awesome

I decided to walk and not drive. Snow is starting to melt a bit and refreezing made even the sidewalks slippery. -1 for the summer tires I guess.. or -1 for the weather

Good decision y5choi...I don't have to watch the news story on the fellow who smashed his X5 into oncoming traffic because he changed his tires too early. Waterloo is a tough drive the past couple of days. Smart Choice!
