Jacking points on E70 X5
Saw a couple of threads recently on this site for jacking up the E53 X5. I don't know if those two jacking points referenced are acceptable for the E70. We recently purchased a 2008 E70 X5. I want to be able to switch summer tires for winter tires with relative ease. I wanted to know if there are jacking points other than the ones on the sides, one just behind the front wheel and one just in front of the rear wheel. I need to be able jack it high enough to put a Wheelfloat wheel dolly under the tires, which means I need to lift the car to where the tires are about 12 inches off the ground. Then I want to put jack stands under the built in lifting points but the quandry is these are being used to lift the car already. I have a good 4000 lb hydraulic jack from Sears and have lifted the car already but by using the built in lifting points I can not put jack stands under the car. Can anyone out there tell me specifically what they are doing with their E70 or E53 X5s to jack them up to a height like I am talking about and still put jack stands under them?
Thanks! redmarkt |

when doing work that doesnt require me to go under the car, i simply just use the jack. typically a jack wont just break and let the car fall. i do brake and tire work with just a jack. i sometimes use a 2x4 and lay it flat along the whole side of my e53 (in between the bmw jack points) to get the one side up, then i can fit jack stands BMW jack points. i use the wood to distribute the weight and no break the trim.

Thanks, Tony, did not think of that, that is the reason I put the thread out there. Can use the same idea on my 2004 E60 545i.
Any other ideas of what people have used out there.....I'll read what you have to say. Mark |
